i'll take the GTI anytime in a heartbeat!
If I was earning double what I am now then I think that I'd get an R. However I'm not and never will be so the GTI is fine for me too! With a re-map it can have more than enough go for general road use, rides well and has XDS to keep traction.
There are however some bits of trim on the R that will be very sought after from humble GTI drivers I think. I can see a lot of younger members lusting after the side skirts for a starter. Then there's the tasty rear lights. Some interior bits too, such as the black steering wheel trims as I really don't like the shiny GTI ones. The door trims look nicer in the R too. I can see plenty of GTI/R hybrids in the pipeline in time.
