To be honest I'm quite happy with the car at the moment as it is.  With winter not too far away I just want a conservative drive cos the roads over the North Yorkshire Moors can be quite wild.  Maybe look into it next summer.

i'm gonna be whiter than whiter for now just to ensure i keep my warranty intact.

What exactly is the issues with the warranty?  If you pick up a problem with the engine will they just point and say it is the remap, even if it might not be the problem and then loose your waranty or is that just one of those grey issues that can go any way?

They would be perfectly within their rights to deny any engine related warranty claims - if the engine was modified beyond the standard specification.  There is no hard and fast rule one way or the other on how they deal with this.  Which in my very humble but learned opinion, if you do want to remap, it is vital that you only get it from a remap company who is truely dedicated to VAG products.

Many moons ago, I chipped and eventually my gearbox went pop.  If I were VW then I would void the warranty on the gearbox, drive shafts (in fact anything transmission related as well).  But then, there's been mention somehwere on the forum about VW dealers offering remaps and not affecting the warranty.

No, that isn't correct.

OK, some dealers may be offering remaps, and the individual dealer themselves may honour any 'warranty' - but the Volkswagen UK and Volkswagen AG warranties will still be voided.  So if you do get your VW dealer to do the remap - it is absolutely vital that you have an utterly perfect 'relationship' with said dealer.  If they have ever given ANY cause for concern, such as being difficult with a previous warranty claim - then do NOT get them to do the remap!

There's an ABT dealer at my place. And they're offering to the VI GTI up to 2 Stages.

Stage 1: 260hp (still warrantied by the dealer)

Stage 2: 300hp (not warrantied by the dealer)

From what I've heard so far, ABT is a reputable company and have been doing stuff like this for a good while.

So what do you guys think?

Is it worth it?

If you can speak German, log onto one of the German VW forums.  Abt is extremely popular in the Golfs 'fatherland', and Abt have been both tuning and professionaly racing Audis for years.  Should be absolutley fine.

Yea I thought so too! Been surfing around and researching them for awhile now already.
Problem at my place here is, VW Service Center will only take the car in if its a Stage 1.
If its a Stage 2, they'll reject it.
That's only reason why I'm not going for Stage 2 yet. Not until the warranty is over.

On the Stage 2, the turbo is upgraded to push out the 300hp.
And ABT's logo is imprinted on the turbo, making it obvious its been modified to the engineers at the service center.
Therefore, if Stage 2 has no turbo mods, then the engineers will probably think its a Stage 1!
