wipers stopped working
« on: 13 September 2004, 19:41 »
Today the windscreen wipers and washers stopped working on my 1987 8v digifant. I checked the fuse and it had blown so I replaced it and it blew straight away again.

When I looked under the bonnet I noticed a loose wire (red one with a spade connector) dangling by the gearbox. I put this on the washer bottle , changed the fuse, and the wipers worked for a couple of seconds then stopped again.

Any ideas as to why the fuse has suddenly gone and now keeps blowing?

I had the same problem and eventually I figured out that it was the stock switch for the wipers/washer that was faulty. I managed to pick one up at a scrap yard fo a ?5 and fitted it and the fault was fixed.

Thanks Stevy.

Is the "stock switch" part of the wiper stalk on the steering wheel or something else?

My wipers are also packing in on a regular basis: 1st happend last weekend returning from Cornwall in the dark, lashing it down, doing 90.

Tried replacing the fuse, but it seems to be eating them!

Anone any idea what the stock swith is - Robert, do you now know?

Am hoping it isnt related to removing the tow-hitch and choping off the conecting cable that i did at the weekend: i did tape up the free end of the wires well.

i think the stock switch is the wiper stalk itself from what he's saying
