If you seriously need to ask about fuel consumption, then you probably can't afford to run one.

Whilst the FSI technology definately adds improvements in fuel economy over normal fuel injection, if you drive a GTI as it's meant to be driven, you will prolly get mid to late 20s.

Yeps, not known for they're economy that's for sure. Normal gti town driving  lucky to get 310 miles from 55 litres.... You do the math.... Can get way more on motorways though circa 50-70 miles to the tank.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

It depends.

From experience:
If you cruise on the motorway in no particular hurry you'll see > 36mpg at a GPS indicated 70mph on the computer,
     At a GPS indicated 80 I guess (because I wouldn't know )you'll see closer to 32mpg
If you are gentle and tool around on A roads and B roads you'll see 30-32mpg
In town you're likely to see mid to high 20's - depending on traffic
If you drive it hard on non-motorways low to mid 20's mpg...

Mine is standard.

Given the perrformance available I think it is pretty good on fuel but on large throttle openings will see it drink quite heavily - not a problem for me.

I suspect my average over 32,000 miles (I picked mine up a year ago today) would be around 28-30mpg although I haven't measured it probably 75%-80% of my driving is on motorway/dual carriageway.

I ran a 100 mile run between 60-80mph on Saturday and averaged 33.5mpg. That included a 5-minute idle.

My Long term average is 29.5mpg over seven months and 5k miles.

BUT, driven more 'spirited' on a great road, I have seen figures in the teens....

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
