Exhaust Light
« on: 04 September 2009, 22:28 »
Evening all

Just been out for a bit of a night blast and on my way home the exhaust light came on. Second time it's done this in about 2 months. First time it had gone out again by the time I got back in the car and assumed a back fire or something had set it off and thought nothing of it once it went out.

Now it's come on again think I should get it checked. Problem being that it'll be three years old on 14/9 so am going to get it booked in to the dealers asap in case any work needs doing so I can get it covered on warranty.

Any ideas what the potential issue could be? Before it came on tonight I had been driving "mildly spiritedly" and had then parked up for half an hour or so before getting back in. Light seemed to come on as I accelerated and changed in to 3rd gear.

Be interested to see if anyone has any thoughts, but will be calling the dealer first thing tomorrow to get it booked in.

Cheers

AJ

Can be absolutely anything. Ive found on my MKV I had this problem twice. Both had absolutely nothing to do with the exhaust.

Cheers guys, kind of what I was thinking. Gonna get it checked anyway just to make sure. Would be kicking myself if I didn't and something big kicked off in a few weeks once the warranty had expired.

It had gone off again this morning anyway, as it did last time.

I would take it to the dealers and make sure its noted against your car, that way when its out of warranty you can legitimately say that this issue occurred within the warranty period. Might go for nothing but do this is better than turning up on day 3years +1 and having to foot the full bill...

agreed

the fact the light has come means the code will have been stored.  Get them to scan the car to find the issue and resolve it :afro:

I had the exhaust light and EPC light on at the same time a few weeks ago. It was a broken connector on the fuel pump and they had to replace the whole fuel pump. My guess is that someone leant on it when it was serviced and over time the connection got worse. I asked to keep the fuel pump and the connector was craked on the top.

Dropped it off this morning, apparently due an ECU software update as well.

Asked them to check the car over for anything else given that the warranty is almost up.

I've used Liverpool VW a few times now and so far I've been very happy with them. Always keen to help and very quick to get things done. Hopefully my good experience will continue.

Just had a call, apparently one of the exhaust inlet manifold motors had seized and needs to be replaced. Not entirely sure what that means, but it's covered anyway so I'm glad I booked it in.

Part is on order and going back in on friday to be sorted. I wonder if that is likely to have been affecting perfomance at all?
