« on: 13 September 2004, 16:24 »
Sorry for all the question's ,My  MK1 golf cabrio 86 ,has got the original wheels on it ,i am looking to drop it but could i get a 50mm or more drop on it with out rolling the arches or is 40mm the most ,also what would be the affect's +&- of dropping it by these amounts?
Can any one reccomend a set up i only have around ?400 to spend

This is going to be outside your bufget, but the info may help.
The car you see in my sig below, is my cabrio. It used to run 17" wheels with a 40mm drop. The arches were rolled, but this is not as expensive as you may think, and will come within your remit if you are just changing the springs. I have since changed for 14" wheels and coilovers giving an estimated drop of over 80mm. This is quite an expensive set up, but IMO looks fantastic. For practicality I would just change your springs for a 40mm set and get the arches rolled (just in case, but I cannot see it being a problem really) This can be done, if you are going to change the springs yourself, for under ?400 easily.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

I had G-max springs on original dampers, and had no problems with them. But there are others out there too. Sold them to Dinx, so you can ask her opinion of them, if she ever gets round to putting them on!

when the arches are rolled what exactly is done? Currently on my cab is doesnt look like the tyres will clear the arches on the front lower than 20-30mm...
