Heater fan problems

Mornin' all, just a a quick couple of questions.
My heater fan, doesn't work on any settings now, i've checked the fuse and unfortunately its not anything as simple as that.
I am intending to change this bad boy as its cheap -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK1-MK2-GTI-HEATER-BLOWER-SWITCH-FAN-C325_W0QQitemZ190283094931QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2c4dc19b93&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Could this be the most likely culprit?
If that fails then I will replace the actual fan unit but would like to know if the fan unit from a mk3 Golf will fit and work as i have one lying around?
Thanks

If your handy wth a m/m check for voltage at the switch, if there is bridge it out, if that doesnt work switch it on and check for a voltage at the fan if there is and the earth for the fan is good then replace fan.

Thanking you muchly in advance

I wouldn't have thought so. I would also advise steering clear of 2nd hand ones too as they're all pretty ropey by now.

mk3 one is a completly different shape, corrado & passat ones fit i believe? Not 100% on that. just need to swap the 4 speed fan resistor for a MK2 3 speed one, or fit the 4 speed loom & switch as well like I did
