Electric Windows?
« on: 31 August 2009, 18:46 »
How do I sort out the electric windows? the front drivers and rear drivers side have suddenly just stopped working ... I can hear the two clicks that you hear when you either hold the electric button UP (1 click) or DOWN (1 click) ... but the actual window doesnt budge.

What usually fails when electric windows stop working? I had the rear drivers side passenger one previously fixed, but ive completely forgot what the fault was last time ... it had something to do with the mechanism that pulls the window down and the guy that repaired it, soldered it ... (no idea what it actually was as it was ages ago).

I want to investigate further myself so any tips on what I should look out for, or what the main culprits are ... i'd appreciate it.

If the window goes to move a tiny amount then jams and you can hear the motor it normally the regulator thats fooked !!

Heres one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK3-VENTO-WINDOW-MECH-REGULATOR-2-4-DOORS_W0QQitemZ380145634401QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5882720c61&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

You can get them cheaper than that one you just need to browse ebay !! I got a brand new driver door one for £25 when mine went !!

take the door cards off and have a look, could be a regulator issue, ie the window is jammed somehow and the motor not strong enough to budge it. but the clicking indicates the motor is OK.

Both to go at the same time however is abit suspicous so dont be convinced that is a regulator issue.

when you say its clicking, do you mean the actual motor, or just the switch that your pressing?

have a quick glance at my post in this thread on troubleshooting: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=126411.0

Its definitely the regulators.

The back ones went a while ago, and it was temporarily fixed and now the front drivers has gone and the backs aswell (not at the same time mind u, 1 by 1) ...

SO all im left with is a working passenger side window and sunroof.

I can't afford to have this fixed at the moment ... my insurance renewal just came in, what great effin timing and it actually looks like I might have to sell the car. But will people buy with these electrical problems? I have no idea ... going to have to see what happens.
