Everyone must have a story to tell about VW. Maybe you met your partner because of your car, or had a bizzare experience in one. -? I owe my life to one!
About 10 years ago I had just bought a mk2 Scirroco that I had waited 2 years to get. I spent all morning cleaning and waxing it, then the best part of the afternoon fitting a stereo and aerial.
That night I was off to a family party, and popped round to a friends house to pick him up. In the back were my sister and her boyfriend.
As we approached the T-junction at the end of my friends road, I stopped and checked it was clear. I had grown up in the area and knew it to be a nasty junction to pull out of as to the right the road swept back on itself.
To this day, I dont actually remember approaching the junction. But I am reliably told that as I pulled out, two cars came racing along the road, and hit my drivers side door, sending my car spinning 200 yards down the road. The police arrived at the scene and declared me dead, called for an ambulance and fire brigade, to cut the rear passengers out, and closed down the road for testing. When the ambulance arrived, the crew realised I was still alive and rushed me to hospital where I was unconcsious for the best part of the weekend. The police verdict on the accident, was the two cars had been racing at over 105 MPH (in a 30 zone!).
The Scirroco ended up at half the original width after the impact to the drivers door. - After I gained concsiousness, all that was found to be wrong with me was a bit of whiplash and a 1" scratch on my neck. The police crash investigation team also told me, had I been in a lesser car, like an equivalent age of ford, or vauxhall, I would certainly not be here today.
