question for the mk1 guy and girls

so is it possible to shoehorn a r32 into the mk1 or should i be looking at mk2's 
i am looking for a project and i know where a mk1 is at for 200 and it only needs fenders
so if its possible then i would like to cram a r32 into there

I guess anything is possible if you've got the skills although I doubt it would fit in the engine bay without some major alterations. An R32 in a mk1 would be very front heavy and would probably go round corners like a barge. Nice thought though.

otherwise its just another fantasy idea unless you have buckets of cash!

id have to agree, i was a dreamer until a few weeks back. was adamant i was gonna fit a vr6 into my mk1 cabby, but it is just far too much work to get any kind of handling out of it, i mean serious serious work!
so i settled for a 2.0 16v on 40's. much easier swap and should be able to get it to within 10bhp of standard vr6 power, which considering the extra weight of the vr6 isnt a lot.

IMO a mk2 would be a much much better base for an r32 conversion.

yes i have fab experience and yes i have use of full shop and tools

and as for money it really isnt a prob considering its a project

and the handling isnt a prob being it would be a drag car

but as you said the mk2 would be a better bet so i wont be needing your comments anymore

didnt see the bit where you said it was gonna be a strip car....

if thats all its gonna be used for then its worth doing, a fully stripped mk1 should weigh in at under 800kgs, standard mk4 r32 is 237bhp, mk5 is 247bhp.

so with an approx weight of 800kgs, power to weight ratio would be   284.4 bhp/ton for the mk4 lump or 296.4 bhp/ton with the mk5 lump.

that would make a seriously quick strip car!

well yeah a car that has all of its weight in the front is going to be good for nothing other than a strip car. but yes your right when you really quick strip

its not an incommon conversion in a mk2, will be loads of theads around. but if all you want is a strip car, as i said above the power to weight in a mk1 would be awesome!
