I may have mentioned this before

, but I'm changing from a Peugeot 306 GTi-6.
I bought the car at the beginning of 1998, with the Golf Mk III as the main rival in the choosing stakes. I thought the Peugeot was better value for money at the time.
It's been a great car and it will break my heart to see it go for scrap

, but it's done close to 120,000 miles and it has a few problems which are simply uneconomic to repair. It also sounds like an old, clapped-out car when the engine is idling. Mind you, it still starts first turn of the key, and its bodywork is so good a friend recently asked me if it had been resprayed. (It had a new bonnet last year, which I might not have bothered with if I'd realised it was headed for the scrappage deal, but then I didn't know that last June.) Its leather seats are also looking extremely good. And it pulls like a train.
However, it's time to move on, and the scrappage deal made up my mind for me. I always thought I'd sell it on to a boy racer who'd get some more fun out of it, but I can't see a boy racer giving me what the government are prepared to give me. I doubt if I'd get £500 for it on the open market.
It's like having an elderly pet put down.

But I'm really looking forward to comparing it to the Golf! Soon!
