New Performance Exhaust Manifold
« on: 09 September 2004, 14:16 »
Just got in my car at lunch and it sounds terrible. I think the manifold needs replacing. Anybody recomend anywhere for performance manifolds? Its a 16v with a 2.0 conversion engine.

Why you think it's the manifold ??

As for performance one's there's nothing wrong with the Veedub item - but there are different variations you can get for more performance, I think a 50mm inlet is the one most people step up to.

I mean the exhaust manifold not the inlet manifold.

the standard exhaust manifold is pretty damn good for a standard one too ;)

why dont you have a look at the manifold first before you spend money, they can usually be welded back up

Whoops !!! Got inlet manifolds on the brain today ...

As veedubgti16v says see what the damage is first - could just be a gasket or even a fooked heat sheat making some funky noises.

Aftermarket manifolds do flow better - but I've heard you really have to run uprated engine mounts or risk them cracking. PLus they never have the right fittings and I can't stand bodges !!!

if you want a new manifold without doing engine mounts etc then get a mild steel one. it wont put stress on everything its joined to like a stainless one. and get it all heat wrapped too

I've recently fitted a TSR stainless manifold to my 1.8 16v, is this likely to put the exisitng engine mounts under any more stress then what the old manifold would have done.....??

(I did change the front one with like for like about 2 years ago) :)
