Bee-sting antenna on the MkVI?
« on: 23 August 2009, 06:58 »
Hey Everyone... Long time lurker, first time poster!

Being down under, we tend to always get things last and for the gti 6, it is no exception. So to burn time between now and when VW Group Australia decide to bring the gti out here, I've been ogling everyone's pictures of their new gti's and I must say - they are simply gorgeous...congrats to all here that have received the cars and by all means keep it up and do post up some more pictures!

One thing that I noticed is that some gti's have a visible bee-sting antenna on the roof whilst some don't (I presume the ones that don't have it are integrated on the rear glass?). Does anyone here know why this is the case?

Oh and for the English cricket fans here following the ashes - well done lads, I'm sure you guys are chuffed to bits at reclaiming the ashes yet again.

g'day mate!

i'm not 100% sure about the ol' aerial situation.  but here's what I've managed to cobble together.  if nothing fancy on your car then its the integrated aerial in the rear.  then you get the shark fin aerial depending on options.  as far as i know, its down to one of the factory bluetooth prep or sat nav.  i'm pretty sure its not DAB as the dealer's car i looked at had DAB but no shark fin aerial.

the bluetooth prep needs the aerial apparently since it uses nokia's RSAP (remote sim access protocol) bluetooth to integrate the phone into the car's systems and the fin boosts the signal.

re: ashes - I wouldn't put it past Australia to get a world record 4th innings total to retain the ashes!

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

As much as I would love to see that, 176/2 at lunch on day 4, it's all over for us Aussies. England played well when it mattered, especially in the final innings of the first test and all throughout this one so kudos to them!

Definitely makes sense that Sat-nav or bluetooth would benefit from the added boost of an antenna. In terms of aesthetics I would probably prefer to keep the roofline clean but if it improves the reception the aforementioned options, then I would gladly have one - though it would be nice if they colour-coded it as well.

Hehe - that's (not entirely why) I've gone for a deep pearl black car :)

Cheers, Keelaw!

We're still waiting for VWG Oz to announce price, spec, release date etc. even though there have been many sightings of the mk6 gti around Sydney in the past month. Not sure what's taking them so long to be honest.

Yeaup... no word on the standard gti. They're having runout deals on the mk5 atm, so we shouldn't need to wait too much longer for the mk6.

Hopefully there won't be a repeat of the 6-8 month waiting list on the standard gti which happened when the mk5 was released here in 05'. I'm really hoping to get my hands on one by year's end!

By the time the R comes out here, I'd say it'd be late 2010 or even 2011!  Ah well, us aussies are used to getting almost everything last

Well, there's a 3-6 month waiting list for the things in the UK at the moment if that's anything to go by, just like when the mk5 was released.

At least you can console yourselves with nice sunny weather! Not that us Brits are envious of that or anything
