Stripped out cam and timing belt today, as i wanted to test fit a MK2 cam and change the belt and tensioner.
Cam bearing number 3 is 29mm as opposed to 26mm so i need to grind it down which is better than finding out after i have coated it so i felt happy somthing was going right.......
Upon doing up screws on Aux belt/Crank assembly onre of the buggers stripped out, so i have fitted a slightly longer bolt but it aint great
Any one have any idea how much the Crank sprocket costs and is it the same as a MK2 cos i a have one in the Garage loft but it will be a Mission to get it down.

Bloody tug boat

Toyotec says that the mk2 gti cam is a much better cam, better suited to our engines than the lame ass thing in there now..

Mk3 Golf Gti:Full Milltek system and Decat,K&N filter,mk2 Cam,-1.5 degree camber shims, borbet a's, toyo proxies, hot tuning coils, brembo vented discs, greenstuff pads...Soon to have Eaton Power

mk3 16v 5dr Gti,mintex extreme pads,drilled/grooved discs, lowered, cat back powerflow system, omp panel filter with modified airbox, debadged grill, started prep for spraying, lots to come :D

Bumper Vents :D

Don't think it is that much better to be honest.

Got one cheap on here which is better than the one i have sitting around at home, but the new one has an unground bearing in pos three which is baffling me :undecided:
It has the same part no as the other PB cam i have but different bearing size?
Any way had old cam in my engine but found it to lower MPG which was bad for Daily driving but had a lot better pick up and more umpf now the old tug has been relegated by London transports finest i thought i would shove it back in as it was time for a new belt etc.
With regards to the bottom sprocket i am going to drill the threads out and re tap them M10 when i have it off next that way it wont cost me anything and i wont have to climb about in the Garage roof

Sounds about right
I will shove it up on the Grinder at work and grind it down to the same as the others, but i never had to do it on the other Cam which is ex MK2 (or is it :undecided:) so i am still puzzled a bit.
Now i am not sure if i done the water pump pulley up so i better get outside with my 6mm Key

Worth bearing in mind that they are treated I believe so if you grind it down etc to make it fit, it might not last as long as the others.
