Another conversion question lol 1.4 16v

Hi all havent been around in the mk1 scene for a while but a few wheeks ago bought a ebay bargain a mk1 cabrio for £55 it came with loads of parts missing but the bodywork is complete and fancied as a project the engines working fine now but decided as its a project ill swap it im thinking of going to a 1.4 16v as i dont need the car to go quick and doing this brings the tax down. has anyone done this conversion and does the engine bolt in without rerouting the mounts does the exhaust manifold line up with the mk1 under carriage.

Why would it bring the tax down, I think to change the tax is not that easy, also don't think that lump has enough torque for a cabrio.

the polo is a heavier car? or there abouts the same weight as for the tax if it says 1.4 on the log book it will be cheaper  i could do a boring conversion 16v kr or 20vt but its been done to deaf already so i thought a 1.4 16v on carbs would be sweet its a nice looking engine and should kick out around a 100hp so power wouldnt be down to much

power will be up, if the 1.8 carb lump is same as mk2 1.8 carbs its 90bhp. not sure about mounts, i think they will be different as its a small block engine you want to fit?

as for the exhaust you can probably get away with welding the top of the 1.4 downpipe to the bottom of the mk1 item, should solve clearance issues.

my mother in law had a 1.4 16v polo, i drove it and they are quick enough, probably perfect for a mk1 cab

It'll be an un-usual conversion, most people look for the 1.5+ engine mounts to conver their 1.3L to 1.8L, not the other way around. 
You will have to change the engine mount
The tax will be un-affected, if you want to get it lowered, then you'ee have to get VOSA to have a butchers at it, poss an SVA test etc. 
I have a 1588cc MK1 GTi, which is the same tax bracket as my 2.0l Accord?!?! (alright it drinks like a fish and poisens every thing it goes past).

I am affraid a pesimistic saying of don't p*ss into the wind, (it will be a lot of hastle for little reward, and make it a ba*tard to sell on in the future...)

But if you go for it (and trust me, it'll be a LOT of work), do it and do it well and shut misserable old gits like me up

See, I was right with the tax it is not as easy as just changing the log book.
