Make sure there are no airlocks in the system, (start the engine cold with the cap off and squeeze one of the rad pipes) and as you point out, the thermostat is opening properly when it should do.

On a much less important scale, make sure the coolant ratio to water is correct.

He asked not how much it cost, but how much was taken off?

If the company is professional, then take it to them and ask!

Dont ask on a forum for advice, then not give answers when people try you help you.

Rant over.

If they have skimmed too much off, you could raise the compression to the point that it is running hotter

Blimey Mikester! Did you get out the wrong side of the bed. Im not being pedantic in anyway. The head has been taken off and taken to a local company that does this every day of the week. As far as im aware i told them the head wanted skimming and they did it . Ive taken heads there before and they have been fine - ive never asked before how many millimetres or whatever they have taken off ever before. I answered the question asked to my utmost knowledge - i never skimmed it myself.

The bottom line is i had the head skimmed and now it is overheating - im asking for a little advice and knowledge from fellow Vdub owners im not asking for a bleedin loan.

And thankyou to all the guysthat have responded with advice i will take it on board - much appreciated.
