Boost Problems!
« on: 18 August 2009, 21:16 »
Got a slight problem with my auq. it all started last week when i noticed id lost about 5psi and the dv wasnt working properly, the car just wasnt pulling right.

I had the management light on the dash so i plugged vagcom in and had an error for the n249 valve so i assumed it was faulty and was going to try the bypass at the weekend.

Then today i noticed it was smoking a little, looks like oil  so i plugged it back into vagcom and i had an error 16396 camshaft intake i think it was

I also checked the oil and it looks a little over filled. I had to fill up on the motorway on the way back from usc at pod but that was 3 weeks ago so guessing its not that??

My vagcom isnt registered so cant measure readings over grp 25? think i can only read fault codes so this is all i know

Any help is appreciated, thanks

If you've overfilled the oil your cat may be damaged.. it can take a while to work it's way through but you have the tell tale signs. I would try to rule that out before you go chasing the other faults - if the cat isn't giving your o2 sensors the right readings it will be holding the power back.

Where abouts are you? I may be able to help.

ah yes i know stone very well, i used to blast around there in my mini all the time when i was 17

the sports cats are less prone to damage from oil over-fill.. it tends to just blow right through them.

Did the code for your n249 come back? Could it have been an old code thats been sitting there for months? It's fairly easy to do a temporary "bodge" bypass to rule that out.

Generally the 16396 code pops up when the cam adjuster gets tight/stuck.. i've not had to replace one yet!

powerflow.. nuff said really

not particularly local anymore.. i used to be more over lichfield way back in those days.

if you can get the car to hinckley (about an hour from you) i can give it a once-over and point you in the right direction
