My first Golf
« on: 06 September 2004, 23:24 »
Hello all :P
I posted on the general chat forum a few weeks ago regarding the purchase of a nice Mk2 - thanks again to those of you who replied.
I picked up my new Golf last Wednesday:

It's a totally standard 1991 16v in Ascot Grey metallic. It's done 130k and has had 3 previous owners - 2 really as the second, "mature" owner bought it from his employers as it was his company car. I think he drove it for the first 12 years of its life.?
I'm really impressed with the car generally - the ride is comfortable, there's hardly any body roll, it corners like it's on rails, it's stable and really quite nippy ;D
There are a few little imperfections but it's generally in very good nick. Plans include a plain black Driver grill as mine is cracked and I think the black looks cleaner, and a set of smoked indicators/repeaters. Other than that she's staying completely standard.
Hope you all approve? ;)

Mike

Gambit; it was advertiesed a ?2k and I got it for ?1850, which I thought was alright considering that it has 12 months t+t and is all so original. It's got fsh, loads of old bills and the last 9 MOTs. The body is very good apart from a bit of crust around the spare wiper hole, a small dent and scratch on the back and a little corrosion coming through the d/side door skin (only noticed that when I got home :-\)? It's not mint, but then I wasn't going to pay 3-4k for one that was.
Generally I'm very pleased with it, although I'm still going through the first week of ownership where you find all the bits you'd missed when buying it that you could have haggled about..? :P

Havn't checked the callipers yet :-\
I've spent the last several hours trying to write about vehicle dynamics in an effort to persuade Renault F1 to give me aplacement yr.. it's really started to twist my head >:(
In reply to count-von-carstein's edit; I just don't really like red cars. It's like Reggae music - I'm not saying it's crap, I just don't like it much. Novas and pop music on the other hand.. :P
Here are a few more pictures..
Cheers for the comments guys

I fine example to be sure!

But be aware that you have an auto adjusting clutch cable, which often go wrong.  So at the first sign of adjustment problems bin it and get a manual one! ;)

Cheers for pointing that out John.
I assume the manually adjusting flavour is a straight swap for the auto jobbie.. I'm going to prelace it swoon as it's the pedal is a bit stiff. Would be nice to get the clutch biting a bit nearer the floor as well.
