GTi Mk2 Fuel Pump Query
« on: 06 September 2004, 19:31 »
I've just got my second Mark 2, it's been a while since my last one! Is the fule pump supposed to run continuously as soon as the ignition is on. Also should I be able to here it whine from inside the car?

Just wondering if this could be the cause of the excessive fuel consumption?

Also would a drilled airbox also increase fuel consumption, it runs like a bag of spanners on ticker I believe this to be the cause - should mess with something that aint broke!

Cheers

So, first of all your using more fuel than perhaps u think u should ...

What model mk2 do you have as this does have a HUGE impact !

As for the drilled air box - yes this will caused increased fuel consumption if you have a 'digi' GTi as the air flow meter will register more air and increase the fuel to match, but I very much doubt it'll be a massive increase.

Not so sure on a K Jet though ... I'd imagine it's the same

How many miles u getting to a tank ? Any other mods ?

you should here it prime for 2 secs when you turn the ignition on,

then once the car is started you will not be able to hear it inside the car. though if you stand outside you will hear a small whine coming from just infront of the rear driverside wheel

Only had it a week, so haven't used a full tank yet. I got about 160 miles on ?25. Sorry it is a 1990 16V. Not sure if it's digital or not - you guys will know!

I guess from one reply that the bearings will be going in the fuel pump cos you can hear it from inside the car (without radio on!)

There is a strong smell of fuel at idel when stationery.

Cheer fellas

16v will be K-jet.

I get about 250 miles for about ?30 (3/4 tank) on Optimax which is always about 5p per ltr more expensive then normal unleaded.
