What year is your car, later ones have a chip in them.

you could go to vw and pay £60....the £25 is a bargain (£110 for my passat with coding!)

if it has a chip then its VW only to get it coded, a locksmith should be able to cut it for you if you get yourself a blank. I've not seen chipped keys go for less than about 20 on ebay tho.  If the locksmith quote includes coding its a bargain, if not, still a bargain but you'll have to pay VW to code the new key as well

I bought a VW key with a transponder from ebay for £10. Then had it cut and coded at Timpsons (a local key cutter and cobbler) for £15. They didn't do the best job in cutting they key as I had to sand it a little, but it works.

No need to go to VW to code it. SKC pin can be retrieved if you have the right tools. Don't always work for some reason tho.

I paid £25 for mine. Much better than the £60 I had to pay for my old Micra key :/
