what induction kit are you runnig?
« on: 14 August 2009, 17:20 »
basically im prity fed up of driving cars that sound ruff lol my last car did and my golf dose :( recently got the cat and exhaust replaced for newer standard ones but theres still a slight blow in the system but im not to fussed as im planning to get a full stainless system soon and maybe a induction kit just for that more throtey sound in the engine area. i know i wont be expecting any gains from an induction kit but its more the sound,  i dont want to make my car open to future problems if thats what adding a induction kit will do. so what kits you runnig standard, panel filter or other induction kits? any recomendations

My 8v had/has a pipercross foam induction kit on it when I bought it,  it was a brown colour so I got a pipercross cleaning/dirt retention kit from ebay its now black, dont know if theres much if any performance advantage on an otherwise standard car but you certainly get that induction roar that you were talking about.

To be honest if your only after the sound then you can achieve that by just drilling holes in the airbox.

Decent panel filter eg. k&N, then modify the original airbox to suit. basically increase number / size of holes drilled into lower section to your taste in induction sound. Also tear out the crappy restrictive intake trumpet and connect some cold air intake ducting from the grill / bumper / wing vent etc.
Going down this route you save money, don't get a stupid sounding car, less crap in your engine and less unwanted heatsoak and power loss as is achieved when fitting poxy induction kits.

I run a K&N 57i cone filter, cold air feed from some lower vents as supplied by bored_welsh_lad and a heat shield. Also has a bigger bore intake pipe and run a seperate pipercross breather filter so I don't drag any sludge into the throttle body  Sounds nice

Go for either a green cotton filter or pipex panel filter!! I also drilled my airbox and have a green cotton filter.

i had a pipercross induction kit fitted to my polo, sounded really nice, had a cold air feed to it aswell. the golf engine seems to give out so much more heat tho, i would need a heat before i fit one to the gti, 2.0 + induction kit must sound sweet tho?!?
