picking my m plate 8v gti up tomorrow

hi all after many years driving I thought I should own a golf gti.  I think i've bagged a bargain but then i'm a bit out of touch with prices and mileage is very good at 93k with part history and its my misses favourite colour BRG too.  This is going to be the first car that I do any repairs and services on as i have always shyed away or paid the professionals to do the work but times are hard lol.

Problems I have are
1: juddering/racing between 800 and 1000 rpm @ tickover I think there is a sticky on here on how to solve this but can't seem to find it anywhere I believe its is to do with cleaning the thottle bodies???
2: on full lock to the right the steering wheel judders and a slight power steering whine?
3: Brakes are spongey but that may be cos i don't know what to expect and i'm comparing it to my main car 320d 54 plate
4:some rust spots around the arches and where the windscreen meets the roof is it worth repairing these i'm guessing yes but again not so sure.
5: needs an oil and filter change so any recommendations of oil and /or filters would be welcome too pls
6: The car is totally standard and i feel that the best thing to do is keep it that way anyone's thoughts on this?

Im guessing its dragon green, if it is its one of the best colours.

1. Clean throttle body and check all the breathers for splits etc.

2. Check steering fluid level and replace the belt, about £3.50 from factors and a doddle to fit.

3. Bleed the system and check all the pads, discs, and hoses. The hoses go soft with time and the fluid should be changed every two years.

4. Yes if you want it mint.

5. VW filter and a good quality oil, 10w-40 or there abouts.

6. Its entirely upto you.
