Faz, what car do you have and what year is it?

I take it when you've pressed the key to gain entry you have also actually tried to get in via the passenger door?

Someone mentioned earlier that the drivers side door lock may just have a colour coded cover over the actual lock, have you tried to prise this off?

Have you gone to a main dealer with this at all? They cannot just say "dunno" and leave you to clamber in through the boot or now the windows! Else go to a specialist vw, and get any error codes checked.

Hi mate,

Its an 04 Plate GTI

Yeah i tried to get in via both ways, only door which opens is the boot but being a 3 door neither the front driver or passenger side door open from the outside.

I tried the lock but it has been totally de locked, even the AA guy confirmed that. I managed to get the remote reset so i can open the doors but have to put the window down to open them.

That is my next option, i phoned them up today and see what they are saying, if not i will go in tommorrow. Just was wondering if anyone else has had this happened as i can imagine dealers will charge there normal ridicolous prices.

So you've got a Mk4 GTI? We've all been giving you information re Mk5, just as well it was similar..else this thread would have got even more confusing. Correction apparently MK5's WERE around in 04, sorry...cant believe I didnt know that...d'Oh!

If I were you I would look up a vw specialist in your area, take it to them when they are not busy and drop in and ask if they have a look at it, it may not be as expensive as you think.

My local vw specialist fixed my Cruise control for free, that involved hooking up vagcom and making some changes, it only took 5 mins...As a result I now take my business there....(but thats a different story).

I asked the year to see if you were in warranty, you are not, so try to avoid the stealerships and go vw specialist. I am sure if you tell people where you are someone will recommend a place or two.

Probably something just needs reset....dunno if theres a fuse for the central locking, but the fact that your boot opens tells me that the chances are that its not that. Maybe theres someone local with vag com on here who could hook it up and have a look.

Good luck let us know how you get on.

Put the key in the ignition and switch on (dont start the car, just light the dash up), press the lock button on the key fob.. then the unlock button.. then turn the ignition off. That -should- sort you out. I guess you pressed the unlock button too many times and it threw a wobbly.

There is another procedure but that involves putting the key in the door lock... which won't be of much use to you

I just tried that mate, dont seem to have worked. When press lock button the key fob when its in ignition theres nothing happening, like if you take it out and lock it, it will lock the doors and put the alarm on. Any ideas if its just about messing about with it?

i dont think it's supposed to lock, its just part of the procedure.. key turn, click, click, key turn back.. i wonder if the missing lock barrel from the drivers door is causing issues here :undecided:

Yeah seems like a possibility, i am going to go see a guy tommorrow who knows his stuff about it so hopefully can finally get it sorted. I rather die then pay the stupid price the VW dealer quoted me today.

It was £95 just to see if it maybe is the problem that i suggested, then its something else on top to actually fix the problem, so could be a figure around £200-£300+. That all depending on if they know what the problem is.
