Rolfe values her and her mums delicate derriere more than style

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

I am with Rolfe on this one.
My old folks got a Mk5 GTI with 18s and it does not cope with their local speed bump and potholes very well. The ride deteriorate further as the car gets older!

I do agreed those 17s does not match up very well with the car. As I use my MK 6 daily, I decide to stick with 17s and see how bad it is. If I cannot put up with it, I will swop it for those gorgeous OZ Alleggerita HLT (17s of course). It weighs 6.35kg. The lighter weight will help my in-gear acceleration and handling (I probably wouldn't able to tell)

I think VW have tweaked the ride on the mk 6. My mk 6 on 18s feels the bumps much less than my mk 5 did.. which was on 17s..

I agreed with you. The demo I test-drove got 18s with ACC. The ride is acceptable. Better than most hot hatch except the Focus ST and scirrocco. Have your car got ACC?

Mk6 17s ACC> Mk6 18s ACC>Mk6 18s> Mk5 17s
So I expect my 17s Golf in Comfort mode should ride like a Jag!

No I don't have ACC on mine....but the potholes and bumps that used to make me wince with the mk 5 don't seem so bad in the mk 6...even with the bigger wheels

On 17"s ours is very smooth but still sporty when you need it, very good suspension indeed.

Thanks to everyones help in offering wheel swaps ect and because of this it now looks like I have a deal sorted out. I'm so pleased and now I can stop going mad.

Many thanks

R32, give us a little while and I'll drop you a line with some contacts who offered help. I'm a bit swamped here at work so apologies if it takes a few hours to get back to you.
