Hello everyone. Just some quick words of introduction - I'm a family Mam with 2 kids (aged 2(b) and 10(g)), a wife, 2 cats, 2 chickens, 6 fish, a Kia Sorento, a VW Corrado 2.0 16v and a (recent purchase) Mk III Golf 16v.
I bought the Golf as a daily runner and soomething easier to get in an out of than the Corrado. It's going a grand job I must say. She's a 95 model, finished in pearl grey and is quite immaculate apart from some rust along the top of the windscreen which is scheduled for sorting. Oh, and the sunroof doesn't work, that scheduled for sorting out too!
The engine was rebuilt by a previous owner with mahle pistons and piper cams...jees she's quick above 6,000 rpm...just keeps going. Noticeably slower than my Corrado under normal driving conditions though which is taking some getting used to. Great on fuel though, averaging above 37mpg on my daily commute to Cardiff (35 mile round trip).
I just serviced her and she's running much better now though, she seemed to be hesitant when I first bought her but a new air filter and plugs has helped a lot. I still think she's lacking mid range power though so will book her in to a local specialist to see what may be up. Maybe it's the price to pay when you have 'hot' cams?
I bought my first Golf GTI when I was 17 back in the day! It was a silver Mk I 1.6 [HYE 414W] and I loved it. I wish I had kept it now. My second was a Mk II, again in silver [D328 MEP] which I lowered, added a Jetex exhaust/air filter, had a front grill lip spoiler, bee sting aerial and Corrado G60 alloys. Loved that one too, had it for 5 years then traded her in for my first Corrado. Then family life beckoned, gone were my nice cars.......
I was looking to buy a MkIV GTTDi but decided against as all that was in my price range were knackered high milers, so glad I chose an immaculate Mk III now.
Catch you all later. I'll get some pictures up soon with a little note on what's been done to her!
