Clutch Pedal
« on: 09 August 2009, 16:25 »
Hi,
The other day after changing from 1st to 2nd my clutch pedal stayed all the way down.  I assumed it was the cable so replaced with a new one but i still have the same problem.  The haynes manual refer to some kind of counter-weight which i don't seem to have.....  Am i missing something.  Ithe car is a late Mk2 16v
Mk2 Golf GTI 16v
Mk4 Golf GT TDI

Surely something to do with the clutch release mechanism. Perhaps the lever has snapped

I think there is something definitely a rye...  I've fiddled about with it for a while and the clutch pedal will not come back up.  The arm attached the the gear box seems to look ok but its as if there is almost not enough pressure/weight to pull the cable down again and thefore bring the pedal back up.  Is this all done at the gearbox end of on the pedal?  COuld it be I'm missing a spring or soemthing?

The haynes manual says i should have a balance weight on there but mine doesn't.  If anyone has some good pictures of a working system so that I might compare to mine that would be great.  Thanks

check out brokes site, very usefull. the balance weight wont have anything to do with it, rarely fitted on MK2s anyway.

Sounds like the push rod might have punched through the pressure plate............quite common I believe......  :undecided:

Sorry to hijack, but I need a new clutch cable too, and was wondering where is the best place to get one from.  My car is a '91 16v - VW quoted £21.22 (part number: 192 721 335 G) for it... is this the best/recommended place to get one from or are there cheaper places out there?

Thanks in advance
