Poor running on my 8v Gti
« on: 09 August 2009, 16:14 »
Ive got a '95 2.0 8v Gti and when I acclerate hard or to pull away quickly it spluters and is jerky and it has a real flat spot at 4k rpm - Also when I come to a stop the engine hunts between 800 and 1000 rpm for about 30 sec's the eventualy settles at 800 rpm

Anyone know whats at fault?

Or even better anyone local to me able to have a look??

Thanks Stuart

thats it!

spray all inside and wipe clean, mine was black and loads of crap come out, chuck some fuel cleaner in the tank aswell

you can also get the engine hot, remove pipe to airbox whilst still running, rev engine high then spray some carb cleaner up the pipe into the air intake, small bits at a time, it will cough abit but it will clear, if you see whte smoke coming out the back yo have carb crap build up, keep spraying and it will stop white smoke

That looks tricky to get off  :embarassed:

No need to go to that extreme. Just had a problem with mine stalling.
I removed the rubber inlet pipe from the air filter, and sprayed carb cleaner into the manifold whilst opening the butterfliy valve (Round thing on a spring you will see in manifold) with a screwdiver. Wipe with rag and re assemble.
Job done
Good luck

i had the same problem.....

cleaned trottle housing......nothing... but well worth it coz you do notice a differance

cleaned maf senser.....job done ran sweet except

Had cold starting problems......

cleaned dizzy connacts with a screw driver .... (now have a new 1)

it worked a treat.....

then i had a power loss in first when i pulled away.....

it was a small hose that split on the right hand side of the throttle housing... rubber 8mm wide with brading around it

got a bit from a seat at scrappy....job done runs like a charm...

All these problems and it cost me a fiver for some carb cleaner......result
