cold start stall... help please
« on: 07 August 2009, 16:30 »
hey people,

have had this problem for a while now. when i start the car from stone cold then if i don't keep some revs up, using the pedal then it splutters and dies... if however i sit there and keep the revs up at 1000/1500 for about one minute then it runs like a dream, never cuts out and  idles perfectly until it's left to go completely cold again...

i thought it may have been the lambda sensor so had that replaced but problem is still there. I have recently cleaned throttle body and replaced several parts of the ignition system.

any ideas?? thanks for your help

Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

was gonna say clean the throttle body, but you've done that already.

Try resetting the ECU

yes mate. disconnect for 30 minutes, then connect back up, then turn ignition on but do not turn the car on for 5 minutes, then with the ignition still on turn the car on for another 5 minutes. Do not press the throttle at all at any time, let it idle for 5 minutes. If you have the cold starting problems then do this when the car has been run for a while so it starts when you reset it without having to hold the accelerator.

yep, thats all been cleaned and replaced recently, but will have a look.

its an odd problem because its just for the first sort of minute and then it's fine. i'm presuming it's some kind of sensor that needs to heat up or something.... but the lambda sensor didn't sort it.
