rear shocks....
« on: 06 August 2009, 21:52 »
Had my car jacked up and put on axle stands the other day, and noticed the rear shockers have a (brown/red colour rubber) which are both split in various parts, will this fail my MOT next month and will i need new shockers? (cant see any leaks from them tho).... hmmmm

Are you talking about the rubber seal that goes around the the main body of the shock where the strut comes out? if this is split then yes you need new shocks and depending how long they have been like that all the oil may have leaked out already and they could be dry,how does the ar feels when cornering especially going round roundabouts?if it feels like the back wants to break away or feels unstable at the rear then the shocks are knackered.

not sure to be honest, all i know is they are split in various places only noticed it when on axle stands as obviously the wheels sag and the shockers/springs are not compressed.  How much are shockers?

Standard rear shocks are about 25-30 quid and very easy  to change yourself.

Sounds like the bump stops to me, and they won't fail an MOT.
