New paint few issues!
« on: 06 August 2009, 19:36 »
Had some bodywork done recently, and although the paint job was spot on, the weather has been spot on today, i noticed what looks like massive hologram's all over my bonnet

Is this just the wax they've used which has 'smeared' or have they damaged the paint surface with the rotory? I had it on the last car too, think bodyshops just don't know how to lok after paint !!!

Also, VAG paint is supposed to be hard, but how do i find out what the new paints like? Trial and error?  :undecided: May invest in a kestral DA but don't really trust myself to be honest

Any help would be much appreciated!

It sounds like it has been flatted down, compounded and hasnt had a going over with a hologram eliminator or similar.   The paintwork wouldnt be damaged... unless there are proper scratches in it!  Take it back and ask them to give it a seeing to.

when did you have your bodywork done and when did you apply the wax out of interest?  what wax have you used?

Hi,

I haven't applied anything to it yet, weathers been sh!t so haven't bothered. I got it back from the bodyshop about 2 weeks ago. It was done by ocean BMW bodyshop. The lad who did it (my neighbour) said ne used the BMW approved paint as opposed to the 'normal' paint they use on most non warranty/BMW work. He also said it was slightly flexible which helped prevent stone chips, which has me thinking it may also be a little softer than the VAG paint?

He's good at what he does, just the monkeys who finished it off i'm not overly happy about.

my bad... thought it might have been from some wax you had applied, i misread your post

take it back to the bodyshop and show them the defects and ask them to correct it

holagraming is caused by pressing to hard with the rotory and possibly using the wrong pad and polish/compound combination coupled with bad technique .

Cool yer it's no bother i'm going to book it back in next week, there good as gold really, also they are going to redo a small area on the wheel arch as it has gone slightly dark

I  mentioned it to him today and he said they will use a lighter compound to get rid of that???
