Respray roof oak green?
« on: 06 August 2009, 14:44 »
Hello, my last post was about the black bumpers, but straight after I searched (sorry to waste a post) and getting some c4!  My research also leads me to get into using a clay bar for the 1st time.  Bilt-Hamber auto (used with water only) seems to be reviewed as the best by loads of people and i cant wait to try it.  BUT my roof paint might need to be resprayed.

I hope there is another way!  Is there some way I can upload a photo here to go with my post so u can see what I mean?

Thanks, h.

Looks like the laquer!  I have been told I need to get the roof resprayed, but that might be hard because of the bee sting.  Need to remove the interior ceiling trim, but i'd rather not do that as it is well-fitted and secure.  I've had 2 other mk2s that had the ceiling trim come off at the back!

No rust at all!  Going to clay bar the car soon, should I avoid this area?  And Wax?  Is it a good idea to wax and protect that area?  Thanks, h.

yep it definatly needs a re-spray but if your not going down that root then yes wax away mate  its better having some form of protection on it than nothing at all.personally i would go for the re-spray,surely you would only have to loosen the rear part of the roof lining to get to the ariel nut?

I'd be more worried about bending the rubber roof gutters. Right pain once they bend out of shape.

I dont like the sound of that.  This car is original from '90, but if I get the roof resprayed I might aswell get the whole car resprayed!  Chipped bonnet etc...  Im getting this car on the road again to drive but rather not sell, but if this car costs me too much I might just have to sell it.

Anyway im seeking some quotes this weekend, anyone know whats a good price for roof only?  thanks, h.

+1

My last Golf had the rubber at the back on the drivers side keep coming up and was a pain to get to stick down, eventually I smacked it so hard it never came back up

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

If your looking to remove the gutters and they can be removed with a right care and they won't bend as long as your exercise the care, I would then look at spraying the whole thing, because while you have those gutters off, it's the ideal time. Your better off saving a bit more, getting quotes, looking at other peoples cars who have used those bodyshop's and only then make your mind up. Too many horror stories out there of late, a full re-spray will be in the region of £1500-2500K.
