Where do I mount my CD changer?
« on: 05 August 2009, 14:42 »
Iv'e just bought a mint Kenwood radio cassette and cd changer for my Mk2

Why cassettes? It's the only way to listen to 80's music in and 80's car.

Anyway, I'm not sure where to mount the changer. It will just about fit in the glove box, but that would mean buying another one to chop up. My car is very original and I want to be able to keep it that way. I have also seen then fitted on the n/s of the boot floor in the recess between the rear light and wheel arch. I'm not too keen on this as it would mean drilling the floor, and the discs may skip due to been close to the rear suspension.  :undecided:

What have you lot done, and pics would help loads.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I have fitted one in a glove box before and that skipped, do they not normally mount round about where you said but attach to the underside of the trim that has the speaker on. What about under a seat?

Mine fits perfectly in the corrado rear-bench armrest. (Not much help to you, I know!)  No idea what's normally in there though..?

I attached mine to the rear pannel in the boot with nuts and bolts. Used the existing holes. Looked tidy and no damage done. Could even remove the carpet without the changer getting in the way.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.
