« on: 02 September 2004, 18:16 »
Anyone done this yet? Put in a new Tdi lump into a mk2? Im sure the torque will make for a very nippy motor?

I have been considering this and spoke to dubsport about it going into my mk1, they would charge 5k and its 4k for a 20v turbo engine.

The big problems are the gbox is a lot larger than the 20v and would require a lot of work to fit the engine shouldnt be much different than the 20v as they are same size nearly.

You will need a lsd as in my mk1 at least there would be a lot of traction problems at low revs, if you want to tune the engine there isnt much difference in the 130 and 150 as they both end up generating the same amount of torque but obviously the bhp would be different.

I dont think the engines are as easy to find or as cheap as the 20v.

With QPE selling that wiring kit for 900 now to fit a 20v to a mk2 digi if you are doing it yourself that would be the best way to do it in my opinion as 800 (possibly) for an engine sounds a wise investment.

hope that helps

I have been considering this, someone i know has a 20v turbo and they said they should have gone for the tdi lump instead.

I've done a search but havent come across anything except for a few people in forums saying they have seen one smoke a g60, vr6 etc.

Strong engines, bags of torque, good economy :P

Paul, go for the s4 into a mk2, boy that would be quick.

From what i have seen and heard the s3 lump also found in the TT is not worth buying because of the price they go for. Go for a 1.8t, the 150 or 180 bhp version, all you need is a bigger turbo and remap to get much more anyway.......I was offered a 1.8t engine with 14000 miles on the clock for ?700.......it all depends on how desperate you are and what your willing to pay for it.

S4 lump, your guess is as good as mine.
