3 year (30000mile) service
« on: 04 August 2009, 22:40 »
Got my 3 year service at the weekend.

Cost me £85. I thought this was pretty reasonable. How does it compare with the rest of the country?

For my 3 year I paid £140ish, less a 20% arnold clark manufacturer service voucher last week... took it to a VW franchise, spoke to the mechanic and he did a T&D service with the LL oil...

After discount it was about £118:- http://www.arnoldclark.com/images/servicing/pdfs/manu-serv-voucher.pdf

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

£85!!, what did they do to it?? stand back and admire it FFS!!. The Longlife oil is nearly £50 on its own!!, they must of used crap oil to get price to that. Get that stuff out of the engine. Change your service regime , a yearly check for £85 , shocking. Brake fluid change is required if the car is older then a late Reg 56 plate. Was changed on newer cars due to the type of fluid fitting in factory.

Brake fluid service is £62 on its own.

Expect to Pay around £175-£225 (not including brake fluid change) for 3rd year service. 4th year is the biggy

sounds like a bargain for an oil change at VW

£50 of oil + half an hour's labour of approx £35 = £85

i'd want to know what they do for your £175 - £225 as to me that sounds like they are standing back and admiring it for that price!!

is the 3 year service JUST an oil change?

Theres alot more to Just an oil change on a car thats 3 years old!.  If its £50 for longlife oil, £35 labour approx, wheres the Vat or oil filter, air filter, oil disposal charge and Brake fluid change , and all other bits that a car generally gets checked for an yearly service.

could have been a special deal or they just used normal oil instead of longlife.  OP didn't state what type of oil was used

oil filters are less than a tenner, air filter less than £20 and brake fluid change YOU have to tell them you want it done so its quite easy to chop a few quid off.  Even more so if you do the work yourself
