New here, so first, thanks for a great forum.
Just bought a 1988 1.8 GTI 8v with 115,000 miles on the clock as a bit of a project. The main problem is that it's not drivable because although it starts and idles ok, once you introduce part throttle it stops. If you give it full throttle and trip the micro switch it will rev happily at 6 - 7 thousand revs. It didn't have an air filter element fitted when I bought it (it has now) so I guess some dirt could have got into the system.
