Flushing Engine Coolant System (Blocked)
« on: 04 August 2009, 18:18 »
I managed to get my K jet engine started after it had some head work and had been sat for 5 years.

The water pump did not seem to be working as when I disconected the 3 main hose lines one by one nothing seemed to be pumped out. I removed the thermostat and put back together and still it didnt seem to be pumping the water around the system. I kept adding clean water and blew (not ideal i know but it forced a lot of crap out) into the filler tanks and lots of orange gunky water came out the radiator return hose.

I asusmed it was a faulty pump, however having now removed and cracking it open it seems to be fine, so im stumped as to why the system wasnt working.

Does the port on the back of the pump push or pull? And if my engine is blocked with crud is there anyway of flusing it out?

Cheers

disconect the radiator hoses then flush it out using a hosepipe,
do the radiator and  engine block too.
surprising how much crud you will remove

You're worrying about the cooling system on a T25.  It takes 16 litres, I think.  The radiator is ancient and the pipes are very long.  Release the pipes that come into the engine bay and stick a hose on there and flush for some time.

It may be that the rad is knackered - how old is the van, because that's probably the age of the rad.

Flush it, flush the block and see how you go.

You have jacked up the front of the van and released the bleed screw on the radiator, to allow the system to bleed, once you've filled it up?

Unless you do that you're unlikely to get it properly filled and run up.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
