I've got my baby back!

OK, so it turns out the pistons weren't the problem once they got the head off, it was the cam shaft.  Apparantly, one of the cams had worn so much that it was almost completely round!  So although the cam aint cheap it's cheaper than all four pistons....yay!

They had issues sourcing a Sachs performance clutch (in the time required) so I got them to put in a brand new OE one.  Which at the end of the day is brand new and a bit cheaper (yay), a shame they couldn't get the Sachs one but hey ho, I couldn't wait any longer to get my car back.
When they came to fit the clutch they discovered the master and slave cylinders could also do with being replaced, so out they came (boo).

So the parts list is...brace yourself...:
  • Camshaft
  • Camshaft bearings
  • Camshaft hub
  • Hydraulic tappets
  • Head gasket
  • Head bolts
  • Camshaft seal
  • sump sealant
  • Oil filter
  • Dual mass flywheel and clutch
  • Slave cylinder
  • Vacuum pipe
  • Camshaft sensor
  • Hub
  • Master cylinder

Phew!
Including labour and VAT came to the pricely sum of £2800.

But, boy does it feel good.  It's really tempting to put my toe down, but I'm gonna have to resist until i've done a hundred miles or so, to let everything bed in, before I see what it can really do.

I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

It came to about £1000 worth of labour.

I'm afraid that is the second yeah  :embarassed:
The less said about that the better

so why have they gone again so soon
how many miles you done since the first time? was genuine parts used, has it been serviced with wrong oil since  :undecided:
£1000 on labour isn't too bad considering you had your clutch and flywheel done aswell.
hope thats the end of your problems

Ah no! Sorry, it was the turbo went earlier this year (and got refurbed) the camshaft got mashed when the wrong oil got used.  It was replaced at the beginning of last year, still much sooner than I'd have liked.

Only 15k since the first time, genuine parts and only the correct oil has been within pouring distance.

To be fair, I was very pleased when I got my car back, and it ran beautifully until the turbo went.  It's just my luck mate.

hope thats the end of your problems

Yeah, I thought the labour was fairly reasonable considering the amount of work involved.

Cheers.
I took it up to Leeds over the weekend, nice and easy on the way there, and gave it a bit of right foot on the way home.  It's beautiful to drive again, I'm so glad I got it fixed.

Unfortunatly I'm not rich
Fortunatly I'd been saving for a while, so had the money available, but all of that is nearly gone now.  If anything else major pops up in the next 12 months I'll be knackered!
