Is it worth waiting for an ABF Lump?
« on: 02 August 2009, 22:05 »
Alrite im hoping to put a 16v lump into my mk2 , i cant seem to find any of the mk3 ABF's but a fair amount of just mk2 1.8 16v's would it really make the difference in the end the power amount by starting off with the 2.0 , im going to fit twin webers fully rebuild top and bottom end , heavly port and polish it ,

Cheers Joe

Theres a complete car in the classifieds for offers, he was selling for £250, i would if i had the money now.
I would try getting a complete car there are loads about cheap, at least the you should have all you need.
MK4 GTI T AGU, REVO Remap, BMC carbon box, Miltek cat back, Forge diverter valve, THS FR3 engine/Gbox mounts, Some random alloys, lowered on coilovers.
192bhp 212lbft torque.

the main difference is the torque, you can get a 1.8 16v up to around 150bhp easily but it just wont be as good in gear as a 2.0

ABF all the way, it's worth the wait.

personally wouldn't bother with the webbers, leave it on digi 3 and it will be far better. Webbers really are old hat now, dont get me wrong i love them in the right situation.

run the abf on standard managment now then you can always swap to Megasquirt or similar then move to ITB's and do the job properly! 200 horses will be a possibility then, whereas 1.8 kr on webbers will probably make no more than 160ish, which you will probably get more from the standard abf.

hope this helps

Only an idiot would fit carbs to an ABF in this century.

Closely followed by an idiot who fits K-jet to one.

Old hat, sub-optimal power and economy.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Anyone got info about heavy modded 1800 16v lumps? are they good ? , Also would a 8v box from a mk2 fit either an ABF or a mk2 16v lump i forgot the code,

Also i have read somewhere about different size stock inlet manifold 40mm or 50mm where would i get the bigger one from ,

I saw on vortex a man was talking about using the KR head with 9a bottom end and that it gives more power ? anyone else able to back this up ,

Cheers Joe
