What's the extra pluf for on the left? mine only has the one to the right

That means it is from a pre 89 MK2, the electrics changed to CE2 in late 89.  VW have standardised CE2 across the entire range, which means if you get an engine from a MK3 or a Corrado, the loom will plug straight into the back of the fusebox, cool huh? ;)

If you have a hazard switch on top of the steering column you have the late electrics, and if the hazard switch is on the dash its the early stuff.
