MAF problem solved......check yours for dirt

As some of you already know i had a problem with my MAF since i cleaned the throttle and hoses...

At the time i also sprayed the MAF housing and since then had trouble with power and the judders..

Today id had enought and took the houseing out and unscrewed the maf its self .

The 2 small sensors (look like the filament in a light bulb) were covered in a black gunk.  I think when i sprayed the MAF housing it must have sparayed the crap in there all over them so i sprayed it all again and cleaned the sensors very gentally with a soft tooth brush.

And it fookin worked... i couldnt beleive it all that just for a bit of crud which must have stopped the MAF getting the right air readiong thus makin the poor girl run like an old dog..

Im chuffed to say the least coz a new 1 was around 100 to 140 quid.......result

So if you got the same issues after cleaning it then theres your problem... check the sensors if there broke then its a new MAF if there dirty then all you need to do is clean....

Might be worth bearing in mind that a few people I know have cleaned theirs out and they have failed a short time after.

They tend to not like being disturbed.

true... but i suppose the idea would be to prove that your maf is the problem??
i dunno... tbh thats why i got hold of a working one to replace mine and see if there is any difference!!

just unplugging it should rule out any problems its giving, they are cleanable but very delicate so damaged easily if not careful but worth a shot if its all gunked up theres no way it can work properly

i will be interested to see what mine looks like when i take it off, im interested to see what they look like on the inside anyway, lol!

yh i try the cautious thing but usually go ahead+ break something, at least you know what not to do next time

Its just 2 screws you dont have to unplug it or disconnect the battery...theres no wires in there it pops out. there are 2 little sensers that just go into a little whole that feeds air to it via the MAF housing and measures air flow.

Its as easy as umm well actually its as easy as undoing 2 screws it really is that simple..

If you cock it up you must be a right plum..

Ill take some shots in the morning but if you buy a new MAF without taking a peek  your mad and you must earn to much money coz atfer i fixed it i spent half the day smiling and the other half slappin myself for being a div and not having a proper look..

Saved myself some dosh to....

but will have a look at mine, cos it makes me wonder if mine is dirty cos my problems are intermittant, lol

£68 new on exchange is it really worth messing around with s/h units or trying to clean them if they are so cheap.
