audi A4 / A6 handles on a golf mk2
« on: 01 September 2004, 19:45 »
I'm currently planning out some changes for my mk2 gti, one of which is a handle swop. I'm either fitting audi A4 or A6 handles and would buy a 'kit' which consisted of genuine audi parts with the weld in plate, but i'm just unsure of a few technicalities.

The first of which is with weld in plates are the plates contoured to the same profile as my current door skin, or do they take some manipulation?

And secondly, how does the audi handle mechanism work with the VW lever inside the door? Is it just a case of the audi handle has the correct 'hammer action' (if that's how you describe it!) so all you do is line up the handle, weld in, and then it works (i know i've simplified it abit there :) )

...or... is there more to it than that and you have to play about to get the two working as one?

*I must stress im not going to be carrying out the conversion myself, i just need some more info to tell the bodyshop because they have little experience of working on volkswagens, they're more than upto the job though, and are always de-locking / de-handling, but aren't that familiar with handle swops.

Any info or experience anyone has of these issues will be gratefully accepted, cars not going in till the 22nd of oct so i've plenty of time,

cheers :)

I'm pretty sure the mechanism needs modification for the two to work together.  But a decent bodyshop should be able to sort that out easy enough, just don't get a bunch of monkeys to do it ;)

I'd recommend the newer style Audi handle of the two that are about, they look s**t hot.
