hmmmm, well if you havent read my views in the 'mk5' section then i think youll all come to 'like' this golf to some degree, when the mk4 came out in 98' 98% of the golf 'fanbase' hated it, 'fat' 'ard arsed' etc etc, where used by many, but over the last 2 years since mk4's have become more available to the 'used' buyers at more realistic prices they have developed quite a following, (let alone all the 'engine' borrowing etc!! so they couldnt have been that bad!! lol). I know alot of peeps hate it with a vengance but its is still the first spec of this model available, when you see more 'gti' and limited models (in 3door form) ont he roads i think youll start to think 'ok yeah maybe' and then so on,.

the mk5 wether you like or not will sell shate loads, then when better specced versions come out as the range matures there will be higher spec, petrol/diesel models and of course the r32 replacement. which will increase the following more so!!.

look im not being paid by anyone to 'plug' the mk5, i just know what i thought of the mk4 when it was released, then when one became afordable to me i bought one. And the stigma that hung around it when it was launched has long gone.

So 'up the mk5' i think it will grow on peeps and opinions will change.

Powering the new Golf GTI is a sophisticated turbocharged 2.0-litre FSI direct injection petrol engine with 200 PS. The car delivers a 0 to 62 mph time of 7.2 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 146 mph (where permitted). Maximum torque of 207 lbs ft is produced on a ?flat curve? from 1,800 and 5,000

got this from another site about the Mk5 GTi.

200brake on tap - and 0-60 of 7 point poo? This thing must be a couple tons. VW really have lost plot and are simply using the GTI badge as marketting tool.
