power steering pipes

My power steering pipes are corroded and need replacing. The cost of ONE of the pipes from VW is £187+VAT!! From a different perspective this would be called extortion. Does anyone know of an alternative supplier or pipe fabricators who could manufacture copies for a reasonable fee?

They run a high pressure so would need to be up to a lot. But still £187+VAT! just wow.

Have you thought about getting some from a breakers yard or from someone breaking their golf on here?

Adam, I thought about breakers etc but theres not a lot of point if they are part corroded already, and i'd be back to square 1 in a couple of years. This must happen to other Golf's......my general question is are people just paying up to get it fixed or is there an alternative?

Thanx for the link i'll give them a call! I was told (correctly or not i don't know) that a lot of hydraulic/pipe manufacturers won't touch "one off" car pipes just in case the part fails in a safety critical situation and they get sued for damages.

100% correct, all to do with HSE and if the item they had made were to fail.

And before people say well they make hoses for big machines, if the hose were to fail then the burst or check valve will stop the boom or load dropping.

Not as easy as that, most machine hoses fittings are BSP but cars tend to be Metric.
