Exhaust reducer sizes ???
« on: 29 July 2009, 09:15 »
I'm looking to buy a second hand VR6 stainless exhaust for the 8v.

Does anyone know the bore sizes so I can get the correct size reducer  :undecided:

Cheers

Bit confused now as the exhaust I've bought is off a 1997 VR6 but he says it's a 50mm pipe to the cat   :undecided: :undecided:

Will I need an adapter??

There is always confusion with the pipe sizes. 50mm is 2"~, so that is an 8v fitments no?

My thoughts exactly Mate.

I'll have to get the car up on the ramps and measure to see exactly needs doing before I rush in and pull the old exhaust off. As Ace said earlier that the VR6 is 2.25" Ilooked around and there is an adapter that goes from 57mm - 50mm so maybe that will be required  :undecided:

check out bosal exhausts website as this includes full diagrammes of the exhaust differences... I have looked and bosal list the connector is the same part for all gti model's and the size changes on the first downpipe (54mm clamp v 60mm clamp) so It should bolt straight up?? And if it dosent you need a bosal 265-119 (357 253 141A vw part) clamp/sleeve

I used the old clamp/sleeve when i put on a Magnex VR6 stainless Steel System. Sometimes it sounds like its blowing around the sleeve and the garage keeps putting on exhaust putty.

Gonna nip down to my brothers garage this afternoon and get the old girl on the ramps to weigh up the situation.

I'll let you know what the solution is if required
