Cheers for the encouragement lads

The Jetta is awesome, not US spec though. Grandard spec car with the brownest interior you've ever seen but with a valver under the bonnet and 280 brakes. Only the wheels and exhaust that give it away! Would wipe the floor with my car

Paint wise, the block was done with high temp enamel Halfords stuff, the head and gearbox with Simonez high temp (etch primered first). No idea how long it'll last but certainly a lot better than it was before!

  Grandad spec sleeper for FTW.

Indeed, it's funking awesome

Just read through the whole lot there, done a cracking job on the car

Definitely should keep the Ronals the colour they are if you're still contemplating the colour change.

Regards Scott

Thanks

Ronals are going to be staying silver when they eventually get refurbed. I might loose the polished lip as I'm not keen - nice bright silver powdercoat I reckon.

Quick update time.

Inbetween searching for work I've spannered a little on the car. Double edged sword - bit of time for the car but I HATE being out of work.

Anyway, yesterday was quite productive in that the Mocal is now on the car and fully functioning. Stripped the front end down and mounted it down in the bumper recess. It seems to be doing a good job so far and the thermostatic plate and original VAG cooler ensures the car still warms up properly. Oil didn't go over 104 according to the MFA on the roadtest with some enthusiastic driving on private lanes. Sat at between 92-94 most of the time. A temp decrease of roughly 10-15 degrees. Tidy

Only problem I have found is getting a good seal on some of the unions. PTFE tape has helped a lot however I have a slight weep from one of the connectors (typically the hardest to access with the bumper on etc ). Will also modify the rad cowling for the other side when I get hold of a dremel so that can be installed - just needs a hole cut into it for the oil pipes to go through.

Oil feed pipes tied together and protected from the sharp edges of the slam panel. Will be putting the plastic rad cowling back on when I've chopped it up suitably to fit the pipes through.

You can barely see it when the bumper is on which is exactly what I was after

Also installed the mk3 weighted shifter that's been in the toolbox for yonks. 2 minute job and what a difference! If you have a mk2 and haven't done this, do it now. You won't be disappointed.

Has been a productive few hours this afternoon. I've FINALLY got the VDO's wired and working so I can see what's going on in the engine bay. They've only been in there 2 years  :embarassed: :lipsrsealed:

Oil pressure sender

We have life!

Illuminated goodness! (wish the bulbs matched though)

Also fitted an uprated headlight loom but yet to see how much difference they make at night. If anyone has any decent bulb upgrades they can recommend please shout.

well i've learned three things on this page:

1) get a mk3 weighted shifter
2) get vdo's
3) get oilcooler

Looks very nice!

I'm also a student on a budget
