Sunroofs good, cabriolets are crap.

Having enjoyed several sunroofed cars, I bought an Eos last summer, thinking it would be like having a giant sunroof. Well, it isn't. Even with the 4 side windows up (which somewhat defeats the object, IMO), the windnoise is so great that you can't talk to your passenger above about 30mph. I sold it after 8 months for the GTI and don't regret it for a second.

Bad idea, sunroofs!

Yesterday morning, warm and muggy, car soon heated up once I got on the road.  Opened sunroof.

Got to work, parked car and forgot all about it.

Yes, this is getting predictable.  Even when my colleague came to my office to ask if I had a waterproof she could borrow to go check on her horse in the teeming rain, I said that I didn't even have one in the car, sorry, without thinking about it.

I wasn't actually sitting in a puddle because the suede leather seat and back inserts soak up the water a bit like cloth.  Might have been better to have had a puddle, at least I could have mopped it up with something.  But I only had a duster to lay over the seat, and by the time I got home I had a very wet backside!  Left the car in the garage overnight with the sunroof still open, but it was still a bit damp this morning.

On the other hand, the aircon is shot, and without the sunroof I'd just be a little spot of grease on the driver's seat.

But on the Mk5/6s - if you have the rain sensor, you can do a tweak via VAG-COM to enable total rain closure.  So if you park up your car with the sunroof open, and it pisses down, the sunroof will automatically close!

I've specced sunroof on my GTI but have a few questions.

Anyone experiencing rattle? I've heard that it can rattle in the tilted position.

Would be great if someone can post a pic of the interior sealing with a sunroof. Is the sealing flat from front to back or does it bend upwards just behind the sunroof?

Last summer when the weather was fine (seems a lifetime ago) and I had mine open there was no rattle but when it was in slide mode bombing down the motorway there was a definite boom, which got worse with speed and went quieter when dropping speed.

I like the sunroof though, it brings some light into an otherwise very dark cabin.

blind is perfect works good. I'm 6' 2" with a sunroof on my mk5, no problem for me loads of head room (it does drop the roof line a little but have not noticed). Have ordered one again in the mk6 gti. Will let in loads of light into the back where with all the tinted glass it's dark for the little one.
Found makes the car more plesent place to be in - ligher and feels more airy.

Has anybody the roof-rain-close setting via Vagcom...it never entered my mind on my MK V

Positive side of the often rain soaked chairs I had is that I was now allowed the leather ......by my wife......who was guilty...

I'm looking forward to having a sunroof again, the past 2 cars have been without. Was always nice to have it tilted for some ventilation

now all we need is some decent weather

My last five cars have had sunroofs with no problems at all. I have ordered a sunroof with my GTI . When you don’t want extra light you just close the blind cover. I love it on sunny days with the roof
