2001 tdi 90 turbo problem
« on: 22 July 2009, 03:45 »
alright
im new to this website and have had a read through some posts about the turbo promlems

every so often when accalerating (sp) the turbo goes off then if i turn the car off it comes back on.

then tonight i got in the car and after about 2000 revs its making a normal whistle noise followed by a noise that sounds like a police siren

its quite loud aswell. its been blowing out a bit of black smoke but then i expect that with a diesel

does anyone have any ideas where to start looking
cheers

stick your head under the bonnet and start looking for loose / disconnected hoses as a starting point

Sounds like a boost leak, jack the car up and look at the intercooler pipes, make sure they're nice and tight with no oil around them

Mines making a whistling noise too  I only noticed it when letting off the accelerator last night.
The more rev's when letting off the GO peddle the louder the whistle, that's about right though isn't it for a boost leak?

Yesterday I had the sticky vanes problem, put some Redex in and booted it a bit not had it again, hopefully won't have it again.

I'll have a look for loose pipes later.
