Len- I had a white G plate 1989 1,6. It had OMP 4 points, phase 1 skip brown suspension (god like handling, transformed the car instantly) Cobra black bucket seats, 1,9 wheels, yoko a539 (not good in the wet, the a520 were much nicer when I had them), stripped out rear, k+n, power boost valve, and a 3.5 group N exhaust, saxo vtr style rear spoiler (it looked OK, but it was on the car when I got it so I didnt want to take it off), I also converted the fog lights so both worked. It was good for 130.
Not sure the filter or valve helped, as they were on the car when I got it.
Before it was stripped out, I had 2x10 subs, 2 amps, sony head unit/cd changer. it was pushing out about 1600w before the amp's did their work...
I blew a coil in one of the subs, so I stripped it all out and enjoyed the burble of the engine instead lol...
I wanted to get the Mi16 in it, but funds never allowed and then I settled down, wife and 2 sons to think about now, hence the slug 1.4 5dr golf

it does have good mpg though...
