Newbie Suspension Help

Just bought a new GTI, absolute steal only 63k on the clock got it for £1k. One little problem however is that the offside front shock is clicking, i presume this needs replacing/is not there anymore right?! Also the suspension has been lowered but is very bumpy, feels nasty to drive.

Question is firstly with the shock gone, am I doing the car damage by driving round on it like that. Should I get it replaced before replacing the suspension?

Secondly if I'm going to be putting some new suspension in anyone recommend some decent brands and suspension models for my Mk3 Golf!? Possibly with prices as well?! As above I'm very new to this and don't know much about suspension and different brands etc.

A clicking could be a broken spring.

The cheapest choice is hottuning coilovers for around £200 and will allow you to set the height as you want it, a suspension kit (shocks / springs) will cost more but will give a better ride..

Or CV joint if spring is ok.

does it click when you bounce that corner or when pulling away/turning :smiley:

The only time I have noticed the suspension clicking is when going over bumps in the road, speed bumps, pot holes etc? Haven't really noticed it going round corners. I don't think the spring is gone as the suspension heights are equal and it still seems to bounce and work ok? It just clicks when going over imperfections in the road...?

best thing to do is jack the car up take the wheel off and have a look make sure there i no play in any ball joints and dont forget to check the arb :grin:

Its worth noting that when pricing up standard set up, over a lowered set up with uprated shocks.

The standards cost more from a motorfactors!!!

And both of them cost more than the hottuning coilovers. But the ride on them is crap. And the although they have a warrenty, getting them is like getting blood out of a stone. f**king useless company. Cheap and sh!t.

I recently paid about £150 for new standard rears from GSF  bump stops were extra.... :sick: :sick: you can get a whole set of coilovers(cack ones) off fleabay for that :laugh:
