I've had a water leak for a couple of weeks now and it's really annoying because I had to keep putting water in every 3 days. (usually in a rush cos I'm late for work), but yesterday I fitted a replacement tank in the hope that would cure it.
it turned out where the top and bottom peices join had split. I've been told the 20v has a high pressure water system so the increased pressure on a 17 year old tank took it's toll. anyway, a quick trip to the scrapper and I had a mk3 item ready to be fitted. I could of gone for a mk2 one, but a) there were none in the yard at the time and b) the mk3 ones look more moden.
I had to make up a couple of L shaped brackets to mount the tank on and then solder on the new plug to connect to the coolent sensor in the tank, but other than that it was a simple replacement jobby. I also had to swap the larger of the 2 hoses that connect to the tank due to the repositioned plug on the bottom, but that wasn't hard. I need to get some smaller bolts to hold the brackets too.
it now looks much better under the bonnet and so far no more leaks. I'm going to leave it a couple of days just to be sure before I put some anti-freeze in. Shame my washer bottle is so grimy now?
